It ruined his life, Now he’s afraid of how it will affect his children’s

My husband was charged with forcible rape at the age of 17. She was 14. He stopped when she asked him to. There was nothing forcible to it. They dropped the charge to endangering the welfare of a child, 1st degree, and told him that he would not have to register if he pled out. He did. Fastforward to 21. He receives a letter from supreme court stating that he does have to register and he was charged with failure to register. Now he is 35 and I’m pregnant with our third child. (No, he does not have any other children besides ours.) We are living in a motel room because nobody will rent to us. The ones that don’t do background checks are located right beside schools and daycares. Can’t find decent work. Anybody that meets him is stunned that he’s a listed on the registry. But in today’s age of computers, nothing is done face-to-face. Lawyers want $15,000 to get him off registry. Obviously we don’t have the money for that. Been harassed by law enforcement. Complained to the sheriff, who’s words were very unkind and included “I know you break the law.”
