Back in 1994, I along with 2 others committed a string of robberies when we encountered a woman who had no money, so one of the guys violated her. My DNA was never retrieved because I did not rape her, yet for being there we were all given an Aggravated Kidnapping & Rape charge. At the time, there was an actual serial rapist going around, and the state fair was coming to town. People were scared to come to town, so they put my face up on TV and said they caught the serial rapist to calm down the community when they knew it wasn’t me.
Ten years later they caught the actual serial rapist, but I was never exonerated. I spent 15 yrs in prison for that, and at the time was given 15 years of registration, but 5 years into my sentence the law changed in Kansas and made us all lifetime on the registry. My registry would’ve been up in 2024 since I started registering back in 2009, but now I have a lifetime of the registry. My life has been ruined by this whole experience, and not a day goes by where I don’t pray for death. I was 20 years old when this began, and I’m 48 years old now.
