I am just going to give a brief overview of what I am going through currently. I was charged under don’t ask don’t tell because I was gay and had a brief fling with a young man who was 2 weeks underage. I was in my early 20s and everything in the case showed no force or coercion. I just simply did not know his age and I had a fling. The law was changing that year (in 2011) and I was not allowed the defenses that would have been given to a man and a woman. We asked during the case to be charged under the law that allowed ‘mistake of fact’ as a defense, but it was denied.
Fast forward 11 years and I was going to be off the registry because I was a Tier 1 and that’s all I had to do in Indiana. I did not know that if you travel and register anywhere else for vacation you get labeled as a Sexually Violent Offender! I had foolishly traveled to Florida, which was one of the states using that label. I thought I had been religiously following the rules given to me by the registry. I had been told that I had to reside in a new state for this to potentially happen.
I have had a successful career that got trampled on because of this and I am currently homeless. If anyone sees this who can help me find the right attorney to assist with this, please contact the website and get in touch with me. I hired an attorney to do the Presidential Pardon but there is very little hope there and will take a couple years potentially. Thank you for reading.
