This is a very tragic story about my son Brian, who is grown but mentally not so much. He has 3 different confirmed conditions. DD(about a 9 year old), Autism, and PDSD, plus he has a genic condition call neurofibromatosis, which cause all sorts of pain and tumors can grown on any nerve lining in his body. So far he’s had 3 taken out of his brain.
I am his 76-year-old father. He was caught while trying to down load music on a shared site called Napster during which some child porn popped up (as some searches included “Young Girl” and a few other songs.) I was working nights and no one was home at night, but he just clicked it out but said it kept popping up every time he signed into the site.
Our AG here in Mississippi, who was a Democrat in a Republican state was back up for election, so you know the big slogan when you wanted to get re elected is “tough on crime.” He had DOJ looking at several sites, so my son was caught. We had 3 DOJ people knocking at my door with a search warrant. They took all of his and my things, computers, cameras, CDs, his gaming systems, playstations, i think 2 or 3. They destroyed what they gave back and kept the rest. After about 20 months, he got arrested. He was 21 then. Right before he was arrested he had an off duty city policeman beat him up, and he broke his shunt in the back of his head. He was in a coma most of the time he was in jail. Even during his bail hearing, he was passed out. He was sent to another jail to wait for trial/ They saw he wasn’t responding, so they took him to the E.R. They had to change out the shunt. Since they didn’t want to pay for his medical bills, they put him on a ankle monitor, which I had to get a very expensive land line phone for. He was in that 2 years waiting for trial. We had to pay the people monitoring him $100 a month for that. He was appointed a Lawyer, who hated him because he thought he was a “pedophile” So he told him he had no defense – if he had child porn on his computer, he was guilty. He told him to plead guilty, which he did – breaking both of our hearts.
The lawyer did ask the judge to not send him to prison, and at least he did that. They kept him on ankle monitor for 10 years paying $100 a month for that, either called house arrest or probation when medical bills came. They did not say anything about the “Registry until court was over. Here in Mississippi all sex offenders are treated the same. No matter if you are a 1, 2, or 3 they all register at a DMV every 90 days for life cost then $11 for the privilege to do that. My son is now 39 with no family support and at 76 i don’t know when i will pass away. But when I do, he will be alone and one of 3 things will happen, he either will be in prison where someone will kill him, homeless, or dead! The awful Supreme court said the registry was not punishment but civil. I wish I could afford to find a lawyer to file a law suit against the Federal Gov. because he did not deserve to be treated this badly!
