Good human being but bad mistake

A swat team swarmed on my 28-year old son’s home at the end of January while he and his roommate were sleeping, with guns drawn and lights flashing. He thought they were at the wrong house. They had a search warrant to obtain all electronic devices and to search his home. They took his computers (one work and one personal) and his cell phone. I guess they have some way to scan these devices in their vehicles because they returned his work computer, his roommate had all his devices returned, but they kept my son’s laptop and cell phone. He took the 5th but they came back and said they found evidence on his phone of a secret folder which contained child porn, so he told them his story and confessed to downloading the pictures and videos. They said they didn’t find anything on his laptop but they were keeping it anyway. The affidavit has been sealed for 90 days, and he has not yet been arrested. My son is a college graduate, and he has a master’s degree as well as a promising career. He is broken, depressed, ashamed, frightened, and devastated. We know that he did a wrong thing, but we cannot believe the consequences of this. He has had an evaluation by a professional, which showed that he is not violent. This professional actually said this was a one and done thing. We have no history of abuse or criminality of any kind in our family. He has never lured or molested anyone in his life. He has never been sexually assaulted. He was raised in a loving, Christian home by me and my husband of 37 years. He is a genuinely kind person with many friends. I know he made a big mistake. He wasn’t aware of the consequences but I know that’s no excuse. We are all so worried about his life going forward. He is in a group counseling program now and we have hired a good attorney. I can’t even express how devastated, heartbroken, and helpless I feel. Please help. I pray all day but I am just so scared. Can’t stop crying. What should I do? Is there any help other than what we are doing? Consequences and labels seem so unfair for the crime. He is not a monster and he should be given a second chance before he is labeled and thrown to the wolves. Is there any compassion left in this world?
